People whisperers

A show on National Geographic channel I really like is the dog whisperer. Not that I am a particular dog lover – I don’t have any pets – but Cesar Millan shows the impact of people’s state of mind on their environment, in his case on dogs. Dogs seem to be particular sensitive to the “energy” radiated by humans and are therefore a good barometer. His opening sense is “I rehabilitate dogs and train owners”. Rehabilitation of the dogs comes through exercise, discipline, and affection – in that order. Training of the owners comes through establishing leadership by calm, assertive energy, and thus by an appropriate state of mind. Anyway…

I found this interesting to draw lessons from in terms of the impact of our state of mind on others. Controlling one’s emotions, seeing clear in times of difficulty, creating context, setting goals are important elements of leadership and direct reflections of one’s state of mind.

In that token, we created a leadership model at Trasys in which such elements are reflected. It has four elements as mentioned in an earlier blog called ‘passion’ (my blog of 22 November 2008). We should all be “people whisperers”…
