Bio-chemical sector - International SAP implementation and deployment
Many of our projects address critical and strategic issues for our customers who, therefore, choose to not disclose their name”.
Environment
The client is a subsidiary of an international group specialized in fertilizers and industrial chemicals. Further to a reorganization of the group in 2002, the Belgian plant became a service center responsible for marketing and production for the Continental Europe area. A direct consequence was the transfer of the whole service center from Finland to Belgian and the build of an IT team capable to support and deploy the operational applications based on SAP. Concretely, this meant operating the servers, supporting the users through a help-desk, organizing roll-out’s in other countries, organizing technical upgrades of the SAP environment and implementing new functionnalities. As the local team in place has no resources nor expertise in SAP, the client decided to partnership with Trasys in order to support the IT department in its new role and responsibilites.
Solution
The project started with the physical transfer of the SAP servers, together with the network and all related connections. Simultaneously, the different teams began to organize the support of the operations, checking the landscape in a remote access mode on a daily basis, and working on site with the technical team of the client. On his side, the functional team organized the helpdesk by structuring the different levels: the first line was assigned to the client’s IT people as they knew the business and the users, the second line being handled by Trasys as they knew the application and technical environment.
During the following 4 years, Trasys helped for the successive deployement of SAP in Jordania, Spain, United Kingdom, Holland, France, the Emirates, Denmark and Germany. The success of the deployment gave additonal responsibilites to Trasys for extending the deployment process to North America’s production sites, where large migrations were organized in order to install new servers and upgrade the SAP application.
Benefits
The succesful deployment of SAP accross countries and the built up of the necessary expertise was realized in a very limited schedule and investment budget scheme for training, people management and helpdesk implementation. While Trasys was handling the SAP project, the client focused on their organizational exercise while IT was supporting the business accordingly and accurately.
