Energy producer - Sharepoint expertise sourcing

Many of our projects address critical and strategic issues for our customers who, therefore, choose to not disclose their name”.

Environment

The client is one of Europe's front-runners in the energy sector and the Benelux market leader. The company develops its range of energy products and services by capitalising on the synergies between electricity and natural gas. It is also part of a multinational industrial and services group active in the energy and environment sectors.
The client’s IT business unit (ITS) has chosen SharePoint, the portal and collaborative solution from Microsoft, as the backbone technology for their intranet, extranet and internet web development. It currently requires extensive external services to help implement this solution on a large number of IT projects. The requested services include project management, architecture, analysis, design, development, tests, deployment, and maintenance.

Solution

Together with Trasys, the client has created the concept of “Managed Staffing SharePoint” which aims at the constitution by Trasys of a pool of IT specialists in a specific domain (in this case the domain covers services related to SharePoint implementation) that are accredited anticipatively by the client. The pool is sized according to the projection made by the client of its future needs for each kind of profile. The delivery of resources from this pool is made upon requests issued by the client’s IT department for specific assignments on projects.

Benefits

The resource pool currently counts more than 20 SharePoint specialists of which a dozen are active on projects.

The first two projects that are using this concept are:

1) Newsroom:
This intranet site allows pushing news from the different ‘publication spaces’ towards the internal staff. This news can be published on a department level, national or on a corporate level. Besides news, there is also space for placing events, describing projects and ordering brochures.

2) Markets & Sales Workspace:
This web application is a complete re-engineering and re-writing of the existing M&S workspace as a work tool for all M&S employees within Europe. The new site will be more user-friendly and faster and will provide much new or improved functionality.
