Environment

The client is one of the largest insurance companies in Belgium, with an important market share in life insurance. Some years ago, it launched a new product with the underlying idea to merge all non-life insurances of independents, small and medium-size businesses with a turnover below 6.250.000 EUR. The customers could benefit from custom warranties, avoidance of duplicate subscription and, in particular, avoidance of the risk of insufficient insurance coverage. The customers could also choose the periodicity of the payments and is entitled to a "Good Customer Bonus". All those assets quickly allowed the formula to keep its promise. Due to a growth five times higher than expected, the client needed a new IT system to support managers in automatically producing quotes and offers. The sensible side of this project was to launch the new system as fast as possible and with full integration with the mainframe environment.

Solution

The very tight planning requested by the client was the first success criteria of the project. So did Trasys plan the project phases and planning accordingly, most of the project tasks being performed in parallel. The first step consisted in helping the client to identify the minimal scope of the first version. The development of the application started early during the analysis phase while the 3-layers model of the application allowed full paralleling of the development tasks. Intermediate releases where delivered twice a month for checking ergonomics & lay-out timely with final users, prepare trainings sessions and run tests on developed functionalities.

Launched exactly upon customer’ timing expectations, the first version has been continuously improved to become a custom-made solution containing state-of-the-art functionalities that support the following activities:

Propose a manual and flexible quoting system for specific insurances

Produce automatically high-quality documents to be sent to the broker and the client

Follow-up the dossiers

Direct mainframe querying to integrate existing relations and contracts in new offers.


Six hundred internal managers currently use the solution while a broker version, distributed to a network of 4000 brokers, proposes simplified screens and a “Send to company” transaction based on XML.
