Environment

The client develops and markets a range of systems, equipment and service in the railway market. It designs, produces and implements rail vehicles, rail infrastructure and related services too many major players in the domain of urban transport, passenger and freight transport by rail. In Belgium, their subsidiary is responsible for the coordination of design, development, marketing and sales in the whole world of signaling systems for railways. Specially, it takes in charge the development of the ERTMS signaling (European Railway Traffic Management System). The Belgian site wanted to decrease the costs related to the management and support of the whole ICT infrastructure.

Solution

The client decided to sign an outsourcing contract with Trasys and covering helpdesk services for standard workstations and operational services for their mainframe. The latter run important production management applications to support the company’s core business. Trasys is in charge of the operational services for the mainframe environment since 1989. In parallel, Trasys helped the client reducing the costs associated to operational services for the standard users’ workstations, covering more than 1.000 PC’s.

Benefits

Thanks to the scale-effect, Trasys demonstrated a cost reduction of 30 % over 2 years for the services relating to the standard workstations. On the mainframe side, Trasys’ outsourcing services demonstrated a cost reduction of more than 35 % over a period of 3 years.
